Bodrogkeresztúr has always played a prominent role in the life of the Tokaj Wine Region, for centuries it was the wine region's market town with a market and a right to buy wine. Tokaj-Hegyalja became the king of the Hungarian wine regions after the Turkish conquest of the Szerémség.
